Hiking

More than half a dozen hiking trails have been established in this
section of the forest. Maps of all the area hiking trails are available at the Mauthe Lake
and Long Lake recreational areas, and Ice Age Visitor Center. |
Riding
|
|
|
The 33- mile Kettle Moraine Bridle Trail plus two loops trails runs
from hwy. H to about one mile southeast of Glenbeulah. Horses can be rented from stables
nearby. The trail is marked with orange markers. |
Golf
|
|
|
A 9-hole golf course is located 1- mile south of Campbellsport; while
an 18- hole course is located about 6- miles west of Campbellsport on Hwy 67. In addition,
there is a 27- hole course in Kewaskum as well (located 5 miles south of Campbellsport on
Hwy 45). |
Old Wade House
|

|
A state historical site is located at the village of Greenbush, which
features an old country inn, restored with original period furnishings. A fine collection
of carriages is housed at the carriage museum. |
Fishing
|
|
|
Almost all the waters in the forest area offer good fishing. Both Long
Lake and Mauthe Lake contain walleyes, northern pikes, large mouth bass and pan fish.
Licenses are available at area sport shops, the Mauthe Lake, forest headquarters, or at
the Ice Age Visitor Center. |
Swimming

The beaches at Mauthe Lake and Long Lake are open. There are bathhouses
at these beaches. As there are no lifeguards provided, strict supervision is advised to
stress safe swimming. |
Hunting

|
The Northern Kettle Moraine area has the most diversified hunting of
anywhere in the state - goose and duck hunting as a result of the proximity to Horicon
Marsh, excellent deer hunting for both gun and bow. Turkey and fine small game, while
hunting with a plentiful supply of pheasants, rabbits, squirrel and grouse. A large number
of pheasants are planted each year by a number of sportsmens clubs, which is active
in the Campbellsport area. HUNTING IS NOT ALLOWED IN RESTICTED AREAS. |
Parnell Tower

The Parnell Observation Tower, located at the head of Parnell Trail,
affords an outstanding view of the Kettle Moraine countryside. It is located on the
highest point of the forest (1311 feet above sea level) and is 300 to 450 feet above the
surrounding countryside. |
Dundee Mountain
|
|
|
A conical shaped hill formed during the melting of the last glacier, is
a world famous kame. The summit 1-mile loop trail has been constructed to the top.
Visitors can have a great experience of climbing the kame and viewing the outstanding
glacial features. |
